Thumri Festival 2022

The second day was started with the performance of Dr. Rita Dev, who comes from the Benaras Gharana and was trained under Dr. Girija Devi. Followed her by Sonali Bose, also a disciple of legendary Dr. Girija Devi. The last performance of the day was by yet another disciple of Girija Devi,  Kalkaji Mukherjee, who was also trained under Sushri Sipra Bose.

A three-day celebration of Hindustani Classical Music

Several artists of Hindustani Classical music had taken part in this festival. On the first day of the festival, the event started with performance of Madhumita Ray. Ray received her musical training from exponents like Pt Vasant Thakar and Ustad Ghulam Taqi Khan and Ustad Ghulam Hussain Khan. Her music comes from the rich legacy of Gwalior-Rampur Gharana. Her performance followed by Pt. Bholanath Mishra, another prominent musician who comes from a rich lineage of Hindustani Classical music. He is known for his versatility and comes from the Benaras Gharana. Indrani Mukherjee, another Thumri and Khayal exponent, concluded the performances on the first day.

On the last day as well, several performances by renowned artists were lined up. The first performance of the day was by Indresh Mishra, who represents Kirana and Banaras Gharana. His initial musical training was under his own father, Pt. Uma Nath Mishra. The second performance was by Sunanda Sharma, who also comes from Banaras Gharana and has been a student of Girija Devi. The last performance of the event was given by none other than Padma Shri Shubha Mudgal. She is an exponent of genres such as Khyal, Thumri, Dadra, and more.

Delhi Classical Music Festival

Parishad has organized its annual feature – Delhi Classical Music Festival from 23rd to 25th Nov., 2019 at Sunder Nursery, Scouts and Guides Marg, Nizamuddin, Delhi. Every year this festival held at Kamani Auditorium, Mandi House. However, this year, it has been planned that Delhi Classical Music Festival is to be done at Sunder Nursery. Sunder Nursery is a 16th century heritage park complex adjacent to the Humayun’s Tomb. The beauty of the place is perfect to soothing a classical evening. The festival was held for three days and a combination of senior artists along with young artists were invited. The artists participated in the festival are padma Talwalkar, Makarand Kundale, Rohit, Majumdar, Apoorva Gokhale, Pallavi Joshi, Vinod Lele, Shyama Kumar Bharti, Ustad Wassifuddin Dagar, Kalvalya Kumar Gurav, Pandit Harish Tiwari, Pandit Umakant Gundecha, Anant Ramakant Gundecha, Akhilesh Gundecha, Amjad Ali Khan Rajendra Prasanna and Rasika Garud.

Thumri Festival

One of the important events organized regularly by Sahitya Kala Parishad is Thumri Festival. Apart from senior artists of light classical music, young and upcoming talents also participate in this festival.

It is normally held in the month of August-September. this year the programme has been organized from 14th to 16th September, 2018 at Kamani Auditorium, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, New Delhi.

Festival was inaugurated by Sh. Rajendra Pal Gautam, Hon’ble Minister for Social Welfare, Govt. of Delhi on 14th Sept., 2018 at 6:30 p.m.

This year very eminent and renowned artists like Shubha Mudgal, Rajan Sajan Misra, Savita Devi, Indira Naik, Rahul / Rohit Mishra, Padmaja Chkraborty, Jayteerth Mevundi, Nila Sinha, and Kumud Diwan have performed in the festival.

A large number of audience enjoyed and praised the programme.

Bhakti Utsav

Sahitya Kala Parishad has organized a three days Bhakti Utsav (a festival of devotional music) at Nehru Park, New Delhi from 20 to 22 April, 2018. During the last few years the Govt. of NCT of Delhi has been organizing Bhakti Utsav at Nehru Park successfully and this festival has become one of the most sought after festival of the Capital. Well known devotional singers from various parts of India perform in this festival.
