The music of India is said to be one of the oldest unbroken musical traditions in the world. It is said that the origins of this system go back to the Vedas (ancient scripts of the Hindus). Many different legends have grown up concerning the origins and development of Indian classical music. Such legends go a long way in showing the importance that music has in defining Indian culture.
However the advent of modern historical and cultural research has also given us a good perspective on the field. This has shown that Indian music has developed within a very complex interaction between different peoples of different races and cultures. It appears that the ethnic diversity of present day India has been there from the earliest of times.
The basis for Indian music is “sangeet”. Sangeet is a combination of three art forms: vocal music, instrumental music and dance. Although these three art forms were originally derived from the single field of stagecraft. Today these three forms have differentiated into complex and highly refined individual art forms.
The ‘Youth Festival’ conducted as a unique endeavour to infuse confidence in the artistically gifted youth by encouraging them to perform on a prestigious platform. The Festival has been creatively designed objectively to include all genres of performing arts and fine arts. Cultural traditions emerge from the passing of knowledge from generation to generation. The ‘Youth Festival’ brings with it the freshness and vigour of new energies that is vital in maintaining the cycle of preservation of traditions, its continuity, and the emergence of new talent.
At the Festival, the music both, classical and contemporary, vocal and instrumental will lift your spirits, while the art installations and canvasses on exhibition created by the youth at the festival will lead you through an ambience that truly celebrates the sublime beauty of expressions in all its dimensions.

The former Scholarship holders of Sahitya Kala Parishad in music and dance are invited to perform in this festival.
In order to bring the talents of children workshops in the field of music, dance, drama and fine arts are organised during the summer vacations in various schools of Delhi for the age group of 8-16 years. The productions prepared by children are staged in auditorium/gallery.
To pay reverence to the river Yamuna and to create awareness of keeping the water treasure clean.
